Hello and Happy Mother’s and Father’s Day (soon)!  It’s been a while since I’ve released a new art series, since I’ve spent most of the last year helping other artists learn how to sell their art online and building their websites.  It’s been great, but I’ve been itching to paint.

I’ve been working on a new series of paintings of subjects facing directly into the sun.  I really wanted to capture the pop and the glare of the sun, the glow and the warmth of the light, and how it interacted with the subject matter in the paintings.  I realized that there’s a connection between the series subject and our upcoming parental holidays.  They both celebrate shining lights in our lives that fill them with warmth.  Hence my decision to do the series for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Actually, I was first thinking Mother’s Day, but Father’s Day is a month after that. Honestly, I’m probably not going to get another series turned around that fast 🙂

The new series is entitled “Celebrating the Light of our Lives.”  Usually my tag line is “Painting the Places We Love.”  Clearly our love of places is tied to the people we love as well.  Places that are special to us remind us of the people who are special to us.  I hope that you find something in this series that reminds you of the people and places you love.

As always, I’ve recorded the creation of some of these pieces.  This first one is a fun one because you’ll notice about half way through that I wipe away the entire foreground of the painting and start over!  Some might hide those mistakes, but I think it’s fun to share them.  I guess it illustrates a lesson our parents taught us: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!”

Unlike the way I usually do this, the series is up now! No week-long gear up for the series, since Mother’s Day is right around the corner. You can check out the new art here. In celebration of the new series, everything on my website is 15% off through Father’s Day. Use the code MOM2018 or DAD2018 at checkout to get your 15% off. They both do the same thing, but I wanted to turn it into a little contest to see whether moms or dads would get the most “votes.” 🙂

I hope you enjoy the video. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
